Bathroom Cleaning Tips to Never Forget
Ever wonder how hotels keep their bathrooms so clean? Well, part is due to daily deep cleaning. While you may not have time to clean your entire bathroom every day, keeping these bathroom cleaning tips in mind and doing a few small things can go a long way to keep your bathroom sparkling. If you feel like your bathroom is in need of a deep clean, we have a few tips to get you started.
Our Favorite Bathroom Cleaning Tips:
The Toilet
Before you start working on the rest of the bathroom, pour a cup of baking soda or borax into the toilet bowl. Let this sit while you work, and when it’s time to clean the toilet, just brush and flush. If you’re still seeing spots, a damp pumice stone is abrasive enough to remove stains caused by mineral deposits and lime scale, but won’t damage the surface. Always remember to clean the toilet brush after every use. You can simply pour bleach over the bristles, let stand for a few minutes, then dump a pitcher of clean water over to rinse it out.
The Shower:
A quick way to clean the showerhead between deep cleaning is to tie a plastic grocery bag or sandwich bag that is filled with vinegar around it over night. For shower doors you can make a paste by adding a few drops of distilled white vinegar to about a cup of baking soda. Apply this to the door and let sit for an hour, and then clean off with a cloth. Once the paste is mostly off you can rinse with your showerhead bucket of water and dry. The tub can easily be scrubbed with a vinegar and baking soda mixture, or to get those tough mildew stains, use a magic eraser.
To keep the shower clean, wipe condensation from surfaces after showering and crack a window to lower the room’s humidity. Mold loves humidity, so the less you have, the better. You can keep distilled white vinegar in a spray bottle and every now and again spray your walls and shower doors to keep mildew away.
Shower Curtains
It may be impossible to get those shower curtains back to life again if they are stained and growing mold. In some cases, the best thing to do is toss and start over. But, if your shower curtains are just a tad dirty from normal use, you can throw them into the washing machine with a couple of towels. Add a cup of vinegar and allow agitating for a few minutes. Turn off the washing machine and leave to soak for an hour before finishing the cycle. They should be squeaky clean!
Mirrors
Keep the vinegar out, as you will need this for the mirror. Combine 1 cup with 1 quart of warm water. Use a piece of newspaper or a small towel dipped in the vinegar solution and wipe in circles on the mirror. Newspaper works better than paper towels when cleaning glass and mirrors.
Sink
For the sink you can again use your handy vinegar and baking soda. Pour these two down the drain with some hot water. For the faucet you can use disposable wipes to avoid spread of bacteria. If you want to get the metal shiny after you clean, you can use baking soda and lemons. Use floss to tackle that narrow, grimy space where the base of the faucet meets the sink. The sink is very important, as it’s bacteria level is proven to top that in the toilet.
Floor Grout
You can dip a grout brush in bleach and scrub any discolored areas and then rinse well. Make sure you ventilate the room while using bleach. Since grout is porous and highly susceptible to bacteria, it’s important to clean this often. If you have mold or mildew problems, it could be time to get your grout professionally cleaned.
